In her lecture, she described that stress is any type of change that causes physical, psychological, or emotional strain. It is very important that one learns and recognizes when they are experiencing stress, as this is the first step to combat stress. Stress can further be managed by problem-focused coping, emotion focused coping, and social support. Problem-focused coping is all the active efforts we put in to manage stressful situations and alter our troubled environment and relationships to modify or eliminate the sources of stress via individual behavior. Emotion focused coping includes talking, and writing about the emotions through therapy, mindful meditation, or distraction with other activities.
